Our 100th Letter!
Amazing! 100 TLC Letters! Emily and I are just blown away! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for riding along on this journey with us. We have loved every minute!
What better way to celebrate the big 1-0-0 than with my sweet friend, Marjorie? I was so incredibly fortunate to work alongside Marjorie for several years, and I always told her that she was the best thing to come out of that job. Marjorie has the best dry sense of humor, cuts right to the chase (which I love), and is an incredibly talented photographer and an amazing mom of three. She’s truly that rock-solid friend that would be there for you no matter what. I was so happy when she agreed to share her hometown of Sacramento with us. Enjoy! —Molly
“It was that population that gave to California a name for getting up astounding enterprises and rushing them through with a magnificent dash and daring and a recklessness of cost or consequences, which she bears unto this day - and when she projects a new surprise the grave world smiles as usual and says, ‘Well, that is California all over.’”

A Seat at the Table
Amazingly flavorful local dishes. I have never had a disappointing meal here and always return no matter how many new restaurants we try. They are magicians with vegetables.
Recommended menu items: Llano Seco Pork Chop on Polenta and the Hummus Bowl.
Not a restaurant but worth mentioning if you want a great cup of coffee while you are in Sacramento. The coffee farmers retain 100% ownership and governance through a cooperative business model, which is unique for this industry, and another reason we love supporting them.
Hot off the Press
Small cozy bookstore with wonderful employees. They host lots of fun events and do community outreach throughout the year.

Paddle Boarding on Lake Natomas
Sacramento summers are hot and we enjoy cooling off by taking our paddle boards to Lake Natomas for the day. Located about 30 minutes from downtown Sacramento there are a few places to put your boards in with different views of the lake. Paddle board rental is easy and convenient in a few shops nearby.
Local winery about 20 minutes from downtown. Beautiful scenery, great wine, and lots of room for kids to run around while parents enjoy a glass of wine and picnic.
Refuge from the Sun
A relaxing oasis in the middle of the city. This is one of my favorite places to go alone or with a friend. I love doing the hot (sauna or steam), cold (cold plunge), and warm (warm pool) cycle for a few hours to reset completely.
Marjorie’s Favorite Part of the City
Made famous as the setting in the movie Lady Bird, East Sacramento is a mix of amazing homes, parks, restaurants, coffee shops, bars, etc. Be sure to check out the gorgeous homes in the “Fabulous Forties” (numbered streets in the 40s).
Get Some Shopping In
Located in the heart of midtown, this is our favorite farmers market! There is a great mix of fresh produce, handmade items/gifts, and local premade food. Be sure to go early as it gets pretty crowded the later you arrive.
Don’t Forget to Pack
Sacramento leans pretty casual. If you are here in the summer, bring a swimsuit, sun hat, and lots of sunscreen - it is hot and there are plenty of ways to cool off!
In gratitude,
Marjorie Kessler
